How do I access your Website?
    Our website is located at www.orientalsilk.com. The first screen display you will see will show a longevity medallion in the center of the screen with the word “enter” under it. Please place your cursor over the word “enter” and left click your mouse. A second screen will appear with the same longevity medallion in the center of the screen. This time different sections of the longevity medallion will display different types of available products. Please place your cursor over the section of the longevity medallion depicting the product you are interested in and click your mouse to access that particular product.

How does one place an order?  
    All orders must be done by mail, fax, or telephone. An order form is available on our website for you to view and download. Please fill out the order form by following the instructions on it. You may mail your order along with payment to us. You can also fax or telephone us with you order. I would recommend mailing us a swatch of the color you wish to order since it is very hard to describe colors over the telephone. Our website is an information website and is not equipped to accept orders online.

Are You Open to the Public  
    The Oriental Silk is open to the public. All visitors are welcome to come in and examine our goods during normal hours of operation.

What are your hours of Operation?
    The Oriental Silk Company is normally open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and closed on Sundays and major holidays. Occasionally we close for a week at a time for buying trips to China. We also close for the week between Christmas and New Year. Please call ahead of time if you are coming from any distance to make sure that we will be open for you.

    We sell retail to the general public. We also sell wholesale to the trade and we accept mail orders.

What is the Wholesale discount?  
    The wholesale discount is 10% for anything less than a bolt. The bolt discount is 15% for all fabrics except for velvet which has a bolt discount 25%. A bolt is about 30 yards or 50 yards depending upon the type of silk. The wholesale discount is only available to those customers with a resale number or seller's permit.

Do You Have a Student or Educational Discount?
    There is a student or educational discount of 10% available with proof of eligibility.

Do You Have a Catalog  
    We do not have a catalog. Our website is our catalog.

What are the prices of your goods?
    All goods displayed on our website are displayed with their associated cost. A pricelist for our fabrics is available for viewing (click here). All listed prices for fabric are per yard. These prices are subject to change at any time. If prices should change, we will notify you before processing your order.

What Types of Fabrics are Available?  
    A pricelist of our fabrics is available at our website for viewing and downloading (click here). It identifies the different types of fabrics that are available. It contains a description of each fabric, its weight or hand, and what it is typically used for. The width and price of the fabric is also shown, as well as the number of colors available.

Do You Have Color Cards or Swatches Available?
    We do not have any color cards. We do have swatch packets available for each fabric listed on our pricelist The pricelist can be viewed on our website and is available for downloading (click here). Each swatch packet contains an available range of colors/patterns for that particular fabric type.

How to Obtain Samples or Swatches.  
    Swatch packets are available for a refundable deposit, plus shipping and handling, payable by check or money order only. All swatch packets require a $1.00 refundable deposit for each fabric type except Satin Tapestry, which requires a $5.00 refundable deposit. Swatch packet deposits are refunded when swatch packets are returned undamaged within 30 days from date of receipt of the order.

Do You Have Other Available Products Not Shown on Your Website?
    We have other available products, such as Chinese porcelains and hand embroideries, which are not available on our website which we sell in our retail store only.

What is the minimum quantity that can be ordered?  
    One yard is the minimum quantity that can be ordered for fabric. The minimum cut is 1 yard. Anything over 1 yard can be fractional such as 1 1/2 yards. All sales of fabric are final!

What is the Availability of Your Goods?
    The availability of goods is subject to change without notice. Some items may not be available due to stock depletion or discontinuation. Colors change from dye lot to dye lot. There is color variation even within a dye lot.

What are Shipping and Handling Costs?  
    Shipping and handling costs are explained in our order form which is available at our website for viewing and downloading.

What Means of Shipment are Available for Orders?
    We normally ship UPS Ground within the Continental United States. In order to do this you must provide us with your street address. We can ship UPS Next Day Air, UPS Second Day Air, or UPS Three Day Air for an additional charge. Please call for possible additional UPS charges for other than UPS Ground shipment. All shipments outside the contiguous United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, will be billed for the actual UPS Second Day Air charges.

Do you Ship Overseas?  
    We do ship overseas via the U.S. Postal Service. We normally ship Air Parcel Post. However, we can ship Global Express Mail or Global Priority Mail for an additional charge. Please call for possible additional charges for other than Air Parcel Post shipment.

How Soon Do You Process an Order?
    Our goal is to ship your order within 48 hours of receipt of the order. We are not responsible for any delays which can occur for overseas orders due to Customs processing at the originating country of the order.

What Method of Payment is Acceptable for an Order?  
    Orders can be paid for by check, money order, cashier's check, or credit card. We accept only Visa or MasterCard. All payments must be in U.S. dollars

What is Your Return Policy?
    All sales of fabric are final! There are no refunds, returns or exchanges for fabric. All fabric is inspected for flaws or stains before shipment so as to prevent shipment of defective fabric. Refunds for items other than fabric will require a receipt and are subject to a 25% service charge. There are no refunds after 30 days from date of receipt of the order.

Is Silk Washable?  
    All silk is washable. The real question is whether or not you like the silk after it is washed. Silk will shrink because it is a natural fiber. You must preshrink the silk before you make your garment if you want your garment to be washable. The amount of shrinkage varies depending upon the type of silk and the temperature of the water. The color and texture of the silk will change after being washed. The chlorine in the water will change the color of your silk. You will eventually loose the natural sheen of the silk by washing it. The weave will tighten and the fibers will expand giving the washed silk a thicker, softer hand. Wash by hand in lukewarm or cold water using a mild detergent such as Ivory Flakes or Johnson's Baby Shampoo. If you want the silk to look exactly the way you purchased it, then dry clean it.

Do You Have White Silks?
    We have bleached white silks. Silk cannot be bleached as white as other fabrics such as cotton. All white silks are actually some shade of off-white or candle white and not a true white.

Do You Have Remnants?  
    We do not have any remnants. We use our remnants to make our swatch packets.

What's New on Your Website?
    We periodically add new products to our website whenever we find new and exciting things on our buying trips. Right now we are adding handmade Chinese frogs or closures to our website. We are also adding hand embroidered silk Charmeuse robes to our website.
